How do I Create a Reference Custom Field?

Reference fields let you link people, companies, and deals/projects/properties to each other.

Reference Custom Fields are commonly used to link a spouse or children to a person, or you can use them to track the referrals you receive from a person or a company.

1.) Tap on the More Options menu (...) and then select Settings.

Tap on More in the lower right of your screen on mobile (iOS/Android).
Select Settings.

2.) Scroll down to the Customizations section and tap on Custom Fields to expand the section. Tap on the gear icon next to the section where you wish to add or edit Custom Fields.

You can create and edit Custom Fields for People, Companies, and Properties (or Projects, Deals, Sales, etc).

3.) Along the top of the screen:

Tap on the Add button.
Tap on Field.

Reference One - one person, company, or deal/project/property can be linked
Reference Many - multiple people, companies, or deals/project/properties can be linked

In this example, we have selected Reference One to help track referrals we receive from a person.

5.) Tap on "People", "Companies", or "Properties" to select where you would like your new field to appear. You can choose one or all of them.

In this example, the "Referred By" field will appear on profiles in the People, but not appear on the Companies or Properties tab.

6.) After choosing which sections(s) the field will appear in:

Name Match: Enabling the "Name Match" option means that only existing contacts will populate as options to select when adding a value to the field. If you leave this disabled, you will be able to type in any name that you want to add.
Filtering: Enabling the "Filtering" option means that you will be able to filter by this custom field.
Segments: You can set this custom field to only appear for specific Segments.
Stages: You can set this custom field to only appear for specific Stages.
