How do I adjust the alignment of content on mobile?

When someone opens your email on a phone, the layout often needs to adjust to fit the smaller screen. For example, wide sections might stack vertically, text might resize, and images might scale down to stay readable and easy to navigate.

Cloze automatically handles these adjustments behind the scenes, so your emails always look polished and easy to engage with, no matter the device. Plus, Cloze gives you flexible settings to fine-tune your emails for mobile — you can change alignment, hide sections or columns, and adjust image scaling to ensure every detail looks just right.

For example, when an email is viewed on a desktop, you might want to center the content in a column to create a clean, balanced look. But on a mobile device, left alignment often looks better and is easier to read.

Switch to the mobile preview mode

For these instructions, scroll down to the bottom of your email and switch to the mobile preview mode.

Mobile Layout

Adjust the layout of a section when it is viewed on mobile (i.e., a narrow screen like a phone).

  1. Select the section by tapping on it.
  2. Tap on Mobile Layout to expand the menu.
  3. Use the various options to make refinements for emails viewed on mobile.

Hide Section on Mobile

This option hides the entire section when the email is viewed on mobile. For example, your property template may include several images that easily fit on a desktop view, but on mobile, hiding a few photos makes the email more compact and easier to scroll down to other content.

Note how the three pictures that are visible on the desktop are hidden when on mobile — this ensures the reader can easily see other key details without extra scrolling.

Hide Columns on Mobile

Cloze includes one, two, three, or four column layouts. With this option, you can choose to hide a specific column on mobile.

Note how the "What's in this issue" column is visible on the desktop and is hidden when viewed on mobile — the reader can see the key content (while the less important images and index are hidden).

Shrink Columns on Mobile

Cloze will automatically change the layout for optimal viewing on a mobile device — typically this stacks columns, which allows text and images to scale up for easier reading. With this option, the columns shrink down to the width of the device.

Note how in this example, the images scale down to fit side by side in the column (not stacking like they would by default).

On the left is an email on desktop (a), and on the right is a preview of the same email on mobile (b). Note how the first row of two pictures that are side-by-side on the desktop are shrunk down and also side-by-side on mobile.

Reverse Columns on Mobile

This option reverses the order of the columns on mobile.

On the left is an email on desktop (a), and on the right is a preview of the same email on mobile (b). Note that the order of the second row of two pictures that are side-by-side on the desktop is in reverse order on mobile — in this scenario, it ensures the alternating text color on the pictures is preserved on mobile.

  2. Tap on Style to expand the menu.
  3. Tap on the Mobile Alignment menu.
  4. Select an option: Same as on desktop, or Left, Center, Right, or Justified.
